Me ans my friend are having this debate.
I say horse riding because I know of so many horses and riders to die on Cross Country courses.
But he says mountain biking is even though he doesn’t know of anybody dieing on courses.
What do you think?

  1. well, im a rider myself and I’ve seen sooo many accidents happen with horses, some fatal, some temporary. The amount of Equine related deaths a year average to about 10 per state in the U.S. Yet according to stats on injuries recorded in hospitals… it is only the 11th most dangerous sport, but mountain biking is no where to be seen on this “top 20″ list i found in an article of Woman’s Health. So I’m going to have to Horse Back riding
Plus, with Riding you have the rider and the horse that could get hurt too

  2. It really depends what type of mountain biking your doing – if you are doing freeride, dirt jump or downhill mountain biking,it can be considered to be one of the most dangerous sports in the world.
if you are doing XC mountain biking it is reasonably safe compared to XC horse riding.
since i do both sports i can assure you that i have had more accidents doing biking than taking part in anything equestrian, and i have been doing riding since i was 5 and have only been doing mountain biking seriously in the past 2 years – and im only 13….. :)

  3. I think it all comes down to experience really, if your good at riding horses then bikes are probally more dangerous, and Viceversa.
But I feel the horse riding is more dangerous because your not in control, it only takes one thing to freak out a horse then for it to chuck you off, but experienced riders could probally deal well with a scared horse.
    Your call really.

  4. Mountain Biking, If you fall of of a horse you are able to die, yes, break a few bones, yes but the chances of you coming back to horse riding is higher than that of mountain biking.

  5. I’d definately say horses on cross country courses, because they’re unpredictable, and I’ve definately heard of more people dying on cross country than mountain biking.
